Battle Hill results and Newsletter 104 published

Newsletter 104 has been distributed by email and is now available on the website.

Also available are results from the Battle Hill ride.

Thanks to Aimee for putting this all togehter while Catherine is overseas for the Xmas break. It takes a lot of willing hands to keep our club going and everyone's contribution is appreciated.

On that note, if anyone can offer assistance at the Waitarere ride's on the 5th and 6th of January, do get in touch with Eunice and offer a hand. There are always lots of jobs to do on the day around the ride base and many hands make for light work.

Do enjoy your Xmas break and we look forward to seeing all our friends and fellow competitors safe and rested in the New Year.

Battle Hill photo set available on Flickr

Uploading of the Battle Hill photos was completed last night and a link is now active on the Photos page of the WATRC website that will take you to them. Included at the end of the set is the group shot of the 1st placed partnerships and indivifual shots for those who requested them.

We're still hanging out for official results and the newsletter, but they'll be posted to the website soon after they're emailed to members.

I've noticed that the presentation of the blog isn't all it should be in a Firefox browser (works as intended in IE 7) so I'll have a look into that and see if I can work out what the problem is.

Battle Hill photos uploading now

As I write, photos from the Battle Hill ride are uploading to Flickr - it's been a marathon day of editing what was a larger than usual batch. One of the nice things about a loop track is you generally get a second or third chance at photographing many of the riders, and so many of you will find yourselves in several photos.

With dinner guests about to arrive, I'm unlikely to get a set and links from the WATRC site organised until either very, very late, or more likely sometime on Sunday, but the upload should complete in a few hours from now, ISP willing!

But if you really can't wait, you can find the photos as they arrive simply by going to one of the already published sets and clicking on the "David F-I" link, or click on this one Use your browser's "Refresh" button every 10 minutes or so and you should find another one or two pics. Because I upload the high resolution images, it does take a while, but once they're there, Flickr takes care of the re-sizing, bless them.

Enjoy, and have a safe and happy Xmas and New Year
David

Horses and riders endure in near record December highs

Battle Hill is a wonderful venue with good trails and fabulous views, but what a tough ride! In 27 degree heat, three substantial hill-climbs are not to be taken lightly.

Horses and riders set out in overcast but still and humid weather. Where the forest would normally offer welcome shade, it instead imposed un-needed shelter from what little breeze there was. Riders could only make their own breeze by moving it along on the enclosed trails. As the day wore on and cloud burned off, the heat of the day became a major factor to be considered in ride strategies.

For the Open and Intermediate riders who, having returned to base rode out on the loop again, there must have been some interesting moments as their horses questioned the sanity of the decision, as only horses can.

Editing of photos is a little behind schedule this time due to work committments, but I'll endeavour to get them posted as quickly as possible.

Newsletter 103 and Karapoti results published

The latest WATRC newsletter includes details for the upcoming Battle Hill ride to be held on Sunday 9 December. This is the last of our club rides for 2007, but the season continues in January 2008 with the 2 day CTR and Endurance event to be held at Waitarere on the 5th and 6th.

Also included in the newsletter are provisional details of the North Island Endurance and CTR Championships, to be held over the long weekend of 26-28 January at Ngaroma, South Waikato. Ngaroma is situated in the rugged central North Island. If you draw a line from Otorohanga to Mangakino, Ngaroma is about two thirds of the way along it. The shortest route from Wellington is through Mangakino. A map showing routes to the ridebase is available on the ESNZ Endurance Resources Ride Flyers page.

Results from the Karapoti CTR ride held on 25 November have also now been distributed by email and published on the WATRC website.

We are very grateful to the generosity of our sponsors and members who have come forward to ensure that place getters and qualifiers at our events receive ribbons acknowledging their achievements.
